Marina Del Rey is the largest man-made harbor in the world. Fisherman's Village at Marina Del Rey with its quaint shops and waterfront restaurants is the main attraction in the area and is frequent by the many sailors using the services of the Marina.
About a mile to the north of Marina Del Rey is the small Venice neighborhood and the famous Venice Beach boardwalk.
Opened on Independence Day 1905, Venice was built as a planned community with the vision of mimicking Venice Canals. What is left today of the vision, aside from several non impressive in land canals, is nothing but planned, but in no way less attractive.
Along a mile long stretch of ocean front spanning from the Santa Monica Pier to the Venice Pier one can find a wide sandy beach, shops, street vendors, street performances, cafes, bicycle and rollerblade rentals and miles of paved trails to cruise on.
The colorful crowd that frequent Venice Beach is an attraction by itself, representing the vibrant, lively nature of the Los Angeles metropolis.
